Temporary Closure of the Alloway Railway Tunnel

Read this for the latest Information about Cycle Path Works

The Alloway Railway Tunnel has been awarded a grant from Scottish national walking charity Paths for All’s Ian Findlay Path Fund, to upgrade the active travel route running through the tunnel, enabling the local community to walk, wheel or cycle more for their everyday journeys.

Work on this path upgrade has now begun (22/01/25) and our construction partners Ayrshire Roads Alliance and Tarmac, have started by improving the drainage and clearing some of the overgrown shrubbery. This will make the path safer and more accessible.

We have been advised that the work to lay a new pathway though the tunnel is estimated to take about six weeks to complete and during this period there will be no access through the tunnel. Signs are in place advising of this temporary closure. We will continue to update local people and visitors as the work progresses.

Any enquiries about the closure of the path should be directed to Ayrshire Roads Alliance 01563 503160
